Tuesday Electives

Evaluating Queer Theology with Ryan Miller
There are members of the gay and lesbian community who love God and are doing their best to follow Jesus and honor the teachings of the Bible. To reconcile who they feel that God has made them to be with the teachings of the Bible they have reinterpreted the texts that are traditionally used to condemn same-sex sexuality. We will look at scripture together and weigh the arguments concerning the Bible’s teaching on same sex attraction and sexual activity. We will also discuss how to move beyond the debate and be known by love.

Prerequisites: Math 101a: Adding and Subtracting; English 100a: Basic Communication with Other People; or, permission from the instructor.
Serving America's Unwanted with Ingrid Sam & Caty Berry
God sent Jesus from Heaven to earth with a mission: to seek and save the lost. Jesus spent time with people, paying attention to them, befriending them and loving them. Often these people were the unwanted of society, those who most people wouldn't notice or wouldn't think twice about if they did. Jesus lived a life of service and calls us to also serve others. As we follow his example, who are the "least of these" in our lives? Why is service so important? How can we serve the working poor? What should God’s justice look like in our prison system?
Wild at Heart with Brent Crow
John Eldrege’s "Wild at Heart" is about discovering the secret of a man's soul.  Every man grows up wanting to be the hero, beating the bad guys, and rescuing the damsel in distress.  But walk into a church today, have a look around and ask, "What is a Christian man?"  Without listening to what is said, look at what you find... most Christian men are bored.  This book invites men to rediscover their masculine heart, and invite women to discover the secret of a man's soul which is defined in the image of a passionate God. (Men only)
